For my birthday this year I’m asking friends and family for donations to Belev Echad. After spending some time at the Belev Echad house and with the wounded soldiers that make it a home, I realized how truly special and incomparable Belev Echad is.
On me first day at the Belev Echad house outside of Tel Aviv I asked if there were any other places in Israel similar to Belev Echad. I assumed there would be hundreds of similar institutions taking care of wounded soldiers and giving them a place to truly heal. The response I received came from a place of love and true appreciation, “there is no other place like this in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Israel, or the world.”
Belev Echad is a foundation whose goal is to answer what comes next. What happens when our heroes come home from war injured, sometimes permanently disabled, and the original sympathy, support, and constant attention inevitably dies down and life returns to “normal” for everyone else.
Belev Echad has a beautiful 3 story home that sees 60-100 wounded soldiers a day, and provides everything from food, physical therapy, and rehabilitation, but most importantly brother/sisterhood, camaraderie, and love.
Every day the soldiers are treated to breakfast and an incredible feast for lunch, have access to a gym, yoga and judo classes, physical therapy, massages, hyperbaric oxygen chambers, a pool, game room, and a gorgeous outdoor area to relax and hang out. But more than the physical aspects of the house, it’s the love and support and the mutual understanding of fellow wounded soldiers who make Belev Echad a truly special place.
Soldiers are there from 10am to 8pm, come from all over Israel, and spend the day being taken care of, and taking care of others. Amazingly as well, most of the staff are wounded soldiers. Belev Echad gives wounded soldiers a place to begin to heal their physical and mental wounds.
Our soldiers on the front lines pay the price and bear the burden of protecting Jews around the world. They give us the ability to feel safe, secure, and protected and give us the confidence to live abroad knowing Israel will always be there to fight and protect us. They shouldn’t bear this burden alone. Supporting Belev Echad is our opportunity to do our part for Israel’s heroes, our heroes, and show them we’re in this together.
Please join me in supporting what I know will soon become your favorite place to visit in Israel.
