Michael Chemla was with his unit during Operation Protective Edge. They were investigating possible terrorist activity and weaponry in homes. Before entering one house that they suspected had terrorists waiting to ambush them, they threw a grenade into it. The grenade hit a wall and bounced back and landed in their jeep. Michael was severely injured and lost his leg. It turned out that the house was rigged with explosives and had the grenade not bounced back the explosion that would have been caused would have killed the entire unit.

Michael joined a Belev Echad trip in December of 2014. Thanks to the Belev Echad community we were able to put together the resources to provide Michael a running leg, bringing him one giant leap closer to getting back to himself.
